Choosing an 800mm Wide Chrome Towel Rail: UK Guide

Quick answer

Choose an 800mm-wide chrome towel rail by its height, published output and complete fitting dimensions. The current reviewed central-heating range offers 600, 800, 1000 and 1200mm heights in polished chrome. Confirm the output at your planned operating temperatures.

Compare the four chrome heights

600mm402W / 1373 BTU/h800 × 600mm chrome rail
800mm546W / 1863 BTU/h800 × 800mm chrome rail
1000mm690W / 2363 BTU/h800 × 1000mm chrome rail
1200mm833W / 2843 BTU/h800 × 1200mm chrome rail

These are the figures published on the product listings checked on 26 October 2026, not independent test results. Confirm the rating conditions and output at your intended flow, return and room temperatures before final selection. When chrome suits the bathroom

Polished chrome can coordinate with chrome taps, shower fittings and other reflective details. View the finish description and photographs alongside the fittings you are keeping. Reflections and screen settings affect appearance, so a photograph alone cannot guarantee a perfect finish match.

Choose the finish after establishing that the model will fit and provide enough heat. There is no need to rule out chrome using a blanket percentage deduction, nor to assume equal dimensions guarantee equal output. The 800mm black-versus-chrome comparison shows the current matching-height figures.

Choose a height from the room requirement

The 800 × 600mm chrome model lists 402W, while the 800 × 1000mm model lists 690W. A low rail and a taller rail can therefore be quite different options for room heating. Check rating conditions before treating either figure as the output in your bathroom.

If the room needs more heat than a suitable-size rail can provide, ask the designer about another emitter arrangement. A larger width or an electric element is not a substitute for that assessment.

Check whether the rail can heat the whole bathroom.

Check chrome model connections and wall distance

These four chrome listings state 750mm pipe centres, 75–95mm wall-to-pipe centres and 90–110mm projection. They are separate measurements. The selected valves, radiator drawing and existing pipes must all be checked together.

Include clearance for hanging towels, service access and nearby doors or drawers. Confirm suitable wall support and fixing arrangements before drilling.

Plan the pipework and installation. Compare the full 600mm and 800mm footprints.

Care and the final order

Follow the product’s finish-cleaning instructions. Do not treat chrome as maintenance-free or use a universal abrasive-cleaning recipe. Dry off cleaning residue as instructed and investigate leaks or persistent wetness rather than disguising corrosion.

Check the selected valve variant and supplied parts. These product links describe central-heating rails; confirm a separately approved complete assembly for electric or dual-fuel use. Towel radiators have a five-year warranty, subject to the relevant terms.
