1000mm × 600mm Towel Rail Under a Window: UK Guide

Quick answer

A 1000mm-wide, 600mm-high towel rail may suit a broad space below a window, but it is not a guaranteed fit beneath a standard sill. Check the actual sill height, full installed footprint, window movement, towels and model-specific clearances before ordering.

The current 1000mm by 600mm model

Our 1000mm-wide, 600mm-high flat chrome central-heating towel rail currently lists the following dimensions. Confirm the latest drawing and selected fittings with your installer.

Listed dimensions for this specific model
Body width × height1000mm × 600mm
Pipe centres950mm
Wall-to-pipe centres75–95mm
Projection90–110mm

These dimensions do not specify the clearance required above or below the rail. Do not infer a minimum wall width of 1100mm or a 50–100mm sill gap without checking the installation instructions and chosen valves.

Measure the window and surrounding space

  1. Measure the usable width and floor-to-sill height at the intended position.
  2. Mark the body, valves, brackets and pipework as one installation.
  3. Check the opening window, sill projection, curtains or blinds and nearby furniture.
  4. Consider where towels will hang and whether they obstruct the window or other fittings.
  5. Allow the manufacturer's specified clearances and access for valves, cleaning and servicing.

The wall and fixing checklist explains why the substrate and filled assembly also need checking.

Confirm output and heating type

The current central-heating listing states 490W / 1671 BTU/h. Confirm the rating conditions and compare output at your system temperatures with the room's assessed requirement. Width and under-window position do not establish that it can heat a medium or large bathroom.

On that listing, valve options select a valve package; an electric element is not included. Use the electric and dual-fuel comparison before choosing a different arrangement, and confirm the actual compatible kit separately.

If the space does not work

Compare another model or position rather than reducing required clearances. Ask the installer to consider the room's complete heating arrangement if a low-height rail cannot provide sufficient output.

Browse extra-wide towel rails using the main wide-rail buying guide. For the output calculation, read the heat-output and flow guide.
