200W Electric Heating Element for Towel Rail Conversions

Our 200 Watt Electric Heating Element is the professional’s choice for converting a standard plumbed towel rail or radiator into an independent, electric-operated unit. Whether you are installing a new bathroom suite or upgrading an existing radiator, this element provides a reliable, year-round heating solution without needing the central heating on.

Product Highlights & Benefits

  • Optimized for Towel Drying: Maintains a fixed operating temperature of 70°C, the "sweet spot" for drying damp towels quickly while keeping them warm and fresh.

  • Energy Efficient Room Heating: Provides a consistent heat source to take the chill out of your bathroom or wet room.

  • Universal G 1/2" Fit: Designed to fit almost all standard UK towel rails and radiators.

  • Ideal for Dual-Fuel Systems: Perfect for users who want warm towels in the summer when the main boiler is turned off.

Why Choose a 200 Watt Fixed Element?

Unlike variable elements that require constant adjustment, our fixed 200 Watt 70-degree element is "set and forget." It is specifically calibrated to reach a temperature high enough to sanitise and dry towels, yet efficient enough to run daily.

Installation & Safety

This element should be installed at the bottom of the radiator. When converting a radiator to electric-only, remember to fill it with a suitable heating agent (water/inhibitor mix), leaving a 10% air gap at the top to allow for expansion as the liquid reaches its 70°C peak.

What is the difference between "Standard" and "Thermostatic" elements?

  • Standard (Fixed Heat): These run at a constant temperature (usually around 65°C to 70°C). They are simple "on/off" devices and are often used with an external timer or wall switch.

  • Thermostatic (Adjustable): These allow you to control the surface temperature of the rail. They often include "boost" functions and internal sensors to maintain a specific heat level.

1. Do I need an electrician to install it?

Yes. Because bathrooms are considered "Special Locations" under UK building regulations (Part P), any electrical work must be carried out by a qualified professional. Elements must be hardwired into a fused spur—they should never be plugged into a standard socket inside a bathroom.

5. What does the IP55 rating mean?

The IP (Ingress Protection) rating tells you how water-resistant the element is.

  • IP55: Higher protection, often found on premium thermostatic models.

6. How do I maintain my electric towel rail element?

  • Bleed the Rail: Even in electric-only rails, air can get trapped. Ensure the rail is bled during installation to prevent "cold spots" at the top.

  • Check Fluid Levels: Electric-only rails are filled with a specialized heating fluid (inhibited water). Ensure it is filled to approximately 90% to allow for thermal expansion.

  • Clean the Head: Wipe the external control head with a dry cloth; avoid harsh chemicals that could corrode the finish.
